STJFL TRACK
GUIDELINES 01-16-2019

 

Section 1 – Rules

• UIL Track and Field rules will be observed unless otherwise specified
• No runner may run more than one leg of a relay
• Relay runners must be identified by the morning scratch meeting

Section II – Equipment

• Spikes

• No spikes allowed for flag
• All other divisions may wear ¼” pyramid spikes and only in track area

• Blocks
• Any runner may start from blocks unless there is more than one runner starting in a lane
• Coaches are responsible for furnishing and removing blocks

• Shot Put – 6 lb steel, checked at event. 4.0 kg for 7th and 8th.

• Discus - 1 kg, checked at event

• Softball – Standard 11 inch softball, checked at event

Section III – Age, Division and Registration

• Registration may begin January 1 for the coming track season

• For age and division, follow the guidelines for Article XI, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 of the STJFL Bylaws.

• The division will reflect the previous football season. Example, if Johnny played in the Senior division in the 2018 football season he will run track in 2019 as a Senior.

 

Section IV – Certification

• An uncertified participant will need to follow STJFL documentation procedures to become certified.

• Physical Exam
• Last Semester School Repot Card
• Birth Certificate

• The Official Roster will be closed as of midnight the Wednesday night before the second meet.

• Coaches must have a background check according to STJFL guidelines.


Section V – Track Meets

• Meets – There will be four meets held, weather permitting, each beginning on a Saturday morning. There will be four host associations for the meets and one association may host more than one meet.

• Participants – Competition will be co-ed, boys and girls compete head to head unless a particular event is otherwise specified as having a girls division. Participants may compete in a one higher age group but never a lower.

• Volunteers – All associations shall provide no less than four volunteers at each meet to help facilitate the events and maintain four volunteers through the duration of the meet. Volunteers shall check in with the meet coordinator at the starting line at 8:00 am prior to the start of the meet.

• Event Entries – All entries shall be turned in to the meet coordinator no later than midnight on the Wednesday prior to the meet. Entries after this time may be scratched.

• Event Participation – Participants registered in Flag, Peewee and Junior may participate in three (3) events only. Participants registered in Senior, Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade may participate in four (4) events. If the participant is entered in the maximum number of events, at least one event must be in the Field competition. If the participant runs a race in a higher division, the maximum number of events in his registered division still applies.

• Scratch Time – At 8:00 am on the day of the meet scratches may be made at the start line. Additions will not be accepted.

• Rain Outs – In case of a rain out, events will not be made up unless the entire meet is cancelled and is determined by the Track Committee to be made up.

• Crowd Control –

• Once the running events start there shall be no non-participants allowed in the track area.
• There shall be no umbrellas or canopies allowed in the finish line section of the bleachers.
• There shall be limited outside concessions.

• June 3 – begin workouts

• June 29 – 3rd meet, Orangefield
• July 13 – 4th meet, LC-M

Section IX – Awards

Medals will be given in each event for the 1st – 3rd place. Ribbons will be given in each event for the 4th – 6th place. Participation ribbons may be purchased and awarded by individual associations as desired.
